Winter patch 2.5 opens the Workshop in Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition

On 9 February 2026 Firefly Studios shipped the free winter update 2.5 for Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition. The centre of it is Steam Workshop support: players can publish their own castles, computer lords, and mission chains, and download other people’s work just as easily.

The same patch opens a castle and lord editor and a custom-trail builder. The editor is for designing a fortress and setting how an opponent behaves in skirmish and multiplayer. Trails are assembled in the map editor, with side advantage, troop limits, and battle options. Finished and downloaded chains show up in the skirmish menu. Missions in the classic trails and in Sands of Time can be reworked by swapping the lord and the castle plan.

For two players, the ten-mission trail Caravan of the Camels is new. Three maps come with the update: Oasis Crossing, Approaching Seas, and Mind Games. A spectator mode lets a match run with computer lords only. Extreme difficulty is now available on the classic trails and on Sands of Time, and on those missions the opponent starts with a castle already built.

The patch was already in the Steam client. Around the same time the game itself was on sale at 30 percent off. Firefly collected the change list in a Steam post.
