CD Projekt said it did not authorize the Phantom Liberty dub
Soon after the GamesVoice fundraiser opened, a CD Projekt Red representative wrote in the official Telegram that the studio had not authorized this dub. The company does not approve fan content used commercially. The position, he said, has not changed since 2023, when GamesVoice first brought the same proposal.
The localizers had leaned on the fan-content rules and kept a backup destination for the money: a GTA: San Andreas dub if the work had to stop. GamesVoice had not yet given a detailed reply to the statement.
The dispute turns on whether a large donation drive counts as commercial use of someone else's intellectual property. For an expansion that shipped without an official Russian dub, that became a legal question, not only a fan one.
Three million rubles and the original cast made the project too visible to pass the rights holder by.
