Broche borrowed FromSoftware’s way of assembling a story
Guillaume Broche says that what Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took from Dark Souls and Elden Ring was a way of telling the story, while the difficulty stayed its own. He likes exploration in which the world first arrives as fragments.
He played FromSoftware’s games along the same arc: little is clear, then the lore runs deeper than the first impression. The world already feels whole before every piece is in hand.
Expedition 33 reads more directly than a Souls story, and it still leaves gaps. Broche kept room for the player to put the meaning together.
